653TM wedge heads are manufactured by both an initial investment cast step to get the beginning shape of the wedge, and then true forging with an 800 ton forging press to compact the material and produce a soft, solid feel.
The head is created from a proprietary soft steel named 400-18 LDS (Low Ductile Steel). This steel is 10% lighter by volume compared to carbon or stainless steel used in most irons and wedges.
The biggest obstacle designers face in a wedge is achieving the shape, size and thickness desired while also obtaining the correct final weight. In the case of the 653TM wedge, no sacrifices are needed. The face is finely machine milled, hence the 653TM (Tour Milled) name, to ensure perfect flatness, consistent spin and exact scorelines.
